  • Room Directions: To get to the Training Room, enter Li & Ma on the 3rd floor of the Sapp Center, and take the stairs to the upper level of the library. Elevator passes can be checked out at the circulation desk if needed.
  • Date and Time: 10:00AM–11:00AM, Monday, July 27, 2026

One of the most powerful features of OpenRefine is the ability to programatically enter values into cells using scripts, for example using Python. This can be used, for instance, to make API calls based on the values of cells in another column. We will show in detail how to do this, and demonstrate a case study gathering role and department information from the FOLIO API given a list of names of library patrons, which can be done in a streamlined way using these tools and can support a variety of data needs in SUL. This class is intended as a sequel to Maricela Abarca's introduction to OpenRefine.
