Data Visualization in R Online

  • Location: Virtual (link provided upon registration)
  • Date and Time: 1PM–4PM, Thursday, May 14, 2026
  • Lead Instructor: Dr. Alma Parada, Head Librarian, Branner Earth Sciences Library

This workshop is an introduction to working with data visualization in R for those who have moderate programming experience in R. If you know how to work with datasets (variables, matrices, dataframes) and functions in R, but you have never created figures beyond maybe a few base R visualizations (using the plot, hist, barplot functions), then this class is a good fit for you! By the end of this workshop, you will have learned the syntax of ggplot2, how to modify and customize graph aesthetics, how to generate common plots (e.g., scatter , and how to save your figures to your computer. Time permitting, we will explore a few extra features such as faceting, custom colors, and themes!

Please ensure R and RStudio are installed on your computer before the workshop. You can download both here: https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/
